Inside Out wins at Food Magazine Awards
Left to right: Anthony, Vuong and Ed chuffed and humbled to take home the award!
On Friday 7 August, 2015, the Inside Out boys put on their Sunday best and rolled up to the 2015 National Food Magazine Awards Dinner at Darling Harbour. Apart from being there to enjoy a nice dinner and drinks and to hang out with leading figures in the food and beverage industry, we were also finalists for the Beverage of the Year Award for our 1L Unsweetened Almond Milk.
So how did we even become a finalist?
Well, it turns out a few months ago that Vuong secretly entered us into this competition. The motive? Maybe we don’t tell him often enough how beautiful he is, and how brilliant he was for developing our almond milk recipe; or maybe he genuinely thought that testing ourselves in an award process like this was a great way of getting our name out there and sharing our products with the world. Whatever it was, he clearly wrote something pretty convincing and articulate! We were up against a number of very well-established companies including Daylesford & Hepburn, H2COCO, Rebello and Barker’s of Geraldine.
Dinner and awards
Prior to the dinner and awards there was to be a brief tasting session. While most other companies were big enough to have people marketing products for them, the Inside Out boys whipped up a sampling storm in their suits, buzzing away with smiles, banter and a cheeky beverage in tow… or at least I (Ed) did, while Vuong and Anthony went AWOL trying every product on offer under the sun (surprised they had room for dinner!).
As we were seated for dinner there was absolutely no tension or sense of anticipation as Julian and Craig from the Chaser, our hosts for the evening, had us in stitches – we simply didn’t think we were in with a chance! Our category was the first be revealed, just after the entree. As the people around us fell silent for the announcement, we looked at each other casually as if to say ‘no pressure’. And then… we were all truly stunned when our name was read out! As we leapt onto the stage to accept the award, Vuong threw in a trademark lame pun and thanked our families for their important part in our story – without them, we wouldn’t have made it anywhere near where we stand today.
The rest of the night was spent dancing the night away to a live band with our friends and family… the perfect end to an unforgettable evening. Thanks to the judges and everyone involved at the Food Magazine for even considering us – very humbling!
Catch y’all soon and thanks for reading!
